RC Tuguegarao Rainbow donates hygiene kits to PDLs

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan - Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) at the Tuguegarao City District Jail here received hygiene kits from the Rotary Club of Tuguegarao Rainbow (RCTR) in partnership with the Tuguegarao City Dental Chapter (TCDC) to meet some of their basic needs amid the threats of COVID-19.

A total of 150 PDLs composed of 20 females and 150 males benefited from the donated kits with an estimated value of Php 45,000.00.

RCTR President Jinky Banatao-Banusing said this is one of the commitments of Rotary District 3770 under the leadership of Governor Dindo Berino -- to donate protective gears and hygiene supplies to those belonging in the underprivileged sectors, those who are providing frontline services and also the PDL.

"This is one way to help our PDL cope with the threat of COVID-19. We admit that, at times, they are hardly noticed and recognized. We understand though, that our jail facilities are overcrowded, which could be one of the reasons on transmission of infectious disease should proper protocols are not observed," Banusing said.

Each hygiene kit is composed of alcohol, hand sanitizers, bath soaps, surgical gloves, toiletries, zonrox, IEC material bearing the 3Ws (Wear, Watch, Wash), and customized washable facemasks. The TCDC, for its part, donated boxes of toothbrush and toothpaste.

"Rotary as People of Action as exemplified by the RC Tuguegarao Rainbow, continues to render services in identified communities. We take this take this opportunity to help," the Club President added.

Banusing said health education on proper hygiene awareness campaign is in the pipeline so that preventive measures inside the jail facilities will be instituted. This will be done at the Tuguegarao City District Jail as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, CInsp Rolando Madriaga and JInsp Micheline Petre, wardens of Tuguegarao City Jail Male and Female Dorminatory, respectively, extended their gratitude to RCTR and TCDC for the donations received by Jail Officers Benejane Guitering and Lourdes Calimaran.

"We are forever grateful to our Rotarians who never forget heeding the call for service and goods needed by our PDLs. RC Tuguegarao Rainbow and other non-profit organizations have been our partners as we provide the immediate basic needs of the inmates," Madriaga said.

Last month, RC Tuguegarao Rainbow also distributed at least 1,000 pieces of facemasks to traffic enforces, street sweepers, garbage collectors, and the members of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) in Tuguegarao City. (ADS/PIA-2)
