SAN FERNANDO CITY, Nov. 21` (PIA) - The local government unit of Aringay inaugurated on Wednesday its isolation facility for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients.
The said facility is located in Barangay Pangao-aoan East.
"This is part of our commitment to provide services especially in this time of pandemic," said Aringay Mayor Eric O. Sibuma.
The isolation center which has a project cost of PhP 7.2 million is a two-storey building with 26-bed capacity.
It has a separate male and female toilet and bath, staff rooms, and water supply.
"We are fortunate to have this constructed through the funds from Bayanihan Act," the mayor said.
The said facility will serve as an isolation center to accommodate and manage mild COVID-19 patients who do not require hospitalization.
For his part, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG-1) Regional Director James Fadrilan said, "Although we wish this facility will not be used, where the LGU aims to achieve zero COVID-19 active cases, the established facility shows our readiness should there be cases."
Meanwhile, Provincial Director Virgilio Sison of DILG La Union shared his hope that the pandemic will end soon.
"The DILG is ready to support endeavors of LGUs especially during these trying times," he said.
Prior to the establishment of the isolation facility, the municipal government of Aringay housed COVID-19 patients at the town's amphitheater.
As of 7 p.m of Nov. 20, Aringay has zero active case. From the start of the pandemic, the town has recorded 15 total confirmed total cases of which 13 have recovered and two died. (JCR/JPD, PIA La Union)
